The 2021 Virtual Heartland Tour
This year the Heartland Tour will take place over a three week period from July 10 to 30.
Registration opened Saturday, June 5 and will remain open until July 29.
There are five unique Challenges to choose from - there is one that will work you.
Track your daily minutes of physical activity during the Tour (July 10 - 30) in your log book (download HERE or, this year, online - the information you need will be in your confirmation email).
It is any activity, any time, any place. It all counts.
At the end of the Tour all those who complete their log books will be entered into a prize draw for each of the challenge groups.
FIVE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY CHALLENGES FOR YOU TO CHOOSE FROM
We know one size does not fit all. You told us in our participant survey last year that a virtual format Tour worked for you. So, we have developed five virtual Tour options for you to choose from - there is one for any age, any ability.
GET UP AND MOVE CHALLENGE
You are not active, but you want to start to make a change in your life. Getting started is the challenge, it begins with sitting less and moving more. Any physical activity counts. We ask that you track your activity in the log book but you set your own goal - it is whatever works for you as long as you are moving your body.
THE 150 CHALLENGE
Back from last year, at least 150 minutes a week of moderate to virgorous physical activity is the nationally established physical activity goal to maintain health and well-being. More is always better.
THE BLUENOSE 100 CHALLENGE
You are active now but you are up for a new challenge - something that celebrates the Bluenose legacy in our province perhaps. Aim to achieve at least 150 minutes a week but during the three week Tour period include seven days where you to log at least 100 minutes or more of physical activity for that day - these will be your Bluenose 100 days!
THE YOUTH 60 A DAY CHALLENGE
We have not forgotten the younger folk. The national recommendation for ages 5-17 is 60 minutes of physical activity each day - and there should be some virgorous activity included in that. That's more than twice as much that the adults! Your body and mind are developing rapidly, they require a good workout. Are you up to the challenge? Put down the devices, go outside and get moving!
THE T2T VIRTUAL "RIDE" CHALLENGE
In 2007, the first year of the Heartland Tour, the "Core Team" cycled from Yarmouth to Sydney, tip to tip (T2T). We have calculated that to be approximately 800 km and at a speed of 20 kph that is 2400 minutes of physical activity. We challenge the very active to "ride" the T2T as their 2021 virtual Tour challenge. It is any activity, you do not have to cycle for 2400 minutes, the activity is up to you. So, log at least 150 minutes each week with a grand three-week total goal of at least 2400 minutes. You have always joined us to help celebrate the importance of living a physically active lifetsyle; help us share the message again this year - "ride" the T2T.
